Víctor Clemente returned from Spain a month ago to start a new job. But he had to spend 16 days in quarantine in Mexico because the borders with several European countries were closed due to the coronavirus.

“For all Europeans who have experienced the pandemic in the United States, we have felt very trapped. In the end, I spent a lot of money on flights, accommodation, diets and also I could not start my job,” Clemente details.

But as of November 8, access to the United States will be reopened for all international travelers who are already vaccinated, as long as they show a negative test for COVID-19.

This measure, announced by the White House, excites European people who did not know their relatives could come to visit them after more than a year with this restriction: “We were planning to Thanksgiving maybe take a trip, but we couldn’t buy any flights, “says an immigrant.

Similarly, this initiative could boost tourism in the city and reactivate the business economy. Such is the case of a taco shop in Times Square, where they explain that they are still operating with a third less profit than they did before the pandemic.

“Latinos consume a lot but Europeans come and buy 20, 30 tacos for a family of 5 or 6 people. It is a very big help”, reveals José Menchaca, administrator of Tacos No.1

One of the industries that would benefit is the airline industry; and it is that, in the month of August, there was a reduction of more than 40% in the flow of passengers.

In fact, this Friday when the cessation of travel restrictions was announced, the most important American airlines had an increase of at least 3% in their shares.

But the most important thing for some is that tourism could return closer and closer to normality: “For us it will be very good to enter directly, and that for us as for you tourism is going to increase,” says one traveler.
