Public transport company De Lijn is working on an alternative timetable, now that fewer buses and trams may be running next Friday 24 September due to a trade union action.

The socialist union is organizing a national demonstration against the wage norm law next Friday. Drivers and other De Lijn personnel may also participate in the demonstration. The transport company therefore warns that fewer buses and trams may run that day.
New for the public transport company is that, since the introduction of a Flemish decree on the continuity of services, it must provide alternative services for trade union actions. De Lijn will therefore ask the drivers whether or not they participate in the demonstration.
With the continuity of the service, the Flemish government wants De Lijn to ensure an “adapted transport offer” during strikes. This is in line with the minimum service provided by the NMBS.
But what does that mean for the traveler? “It is not as simple as with the railway. We cannot just suddenly deploy drivers who are used to driving in East Flanders in Limburg. But the big advantage will be that travelers will know 24 hours in advance whether a certain bus or tram is running or not,” said a spokeswoman for De Lijn.
