Few school canteens, Salerno is a “black shirt”

Salerno it is among the 22 capitals where school canteens are declared for less than 10% of the buildings present. Going into detail, in our city out of 80 institutions only seven allow students to eat at school. A figure which, in percentage terms, gives a pittance 8,75%, one and a half points below the 10% threshold. It’s only worse than Salerno in Campania Napoli, with 1.24% of the complexes in which the school lunch service is active. Higher, but still below the national figure, are the values ​​for the other provincial capitals of the “terra felix”: Caserta stands at 22.95%, Benevento at 22.27% e Avellino al 20,63%.

Another negative record, therefore, for Salerno, a black shirt for school canteens which sums up the synthesis of a failure, at least as far as school welfare is concerned (just recently, in the capital, the lunch service entrusted to the new company that won the contract announced in recent months by the Municipality with various “green” innovations). Because, as he highlights OpenPolis who carried out research for the entire country, food deprivation has the greatest impact on children and young people. A factor that has been linked several times with the phenomenon by the childhood guarantor himself since unfortunately for some children the school canteen meal represents the most complete and healthy meal of the entire day.

A sign of possible food poverty that the most recent indicators seem to confirm. Two in particular: the share of families who declare that in 2021 they have experienced economic difficulties such as to prevent them from purchasing the necessary food, a condition experienced in Italy by 4.9% of children under 16 in that year.
