The RAI fee is certainly one of the most hated taxes by Italians, together with the car tax. This is a tax on the ownership of the TV set and all those who own a set capable of receiving TV programs are required to pay it. Regardless of whether it is used or not. The fee is therefore due, even if the TV is never turned on just for having it at home. Even if, for example, you use your television set as a computer monitor, the tax is payable. And you have to pay even if the device is only used for watching DVDs or playing the Play Station. Few people know it but for 2022 it is still possible to send an application for exemption from the payment of the fee. Let’s see how to do it.
How and when to pay
With the 2016 Stability Law, the RAI fee was included in the electricity bill, spread over 10 months. Initially the annual tax it was 100 euros. It was subsequently lowered to 90 euros, providing 9 euros per month to be charged on the electricity bills for 10 months.
Having ascertained, therefore, that the RAI license fee is now paid in installments in the electricity bill, let’s see who is required to pay. We anticipated that the amount is due from all those who own a device that can receive television broadcasts. But there are exceptions. For example if:
- in the family, the RAI fee is paid by another member;
- during the year, a report of termination of the subscription is presented;
- you are over 75 years of age with a total income not exceeding 8,000 euros.
Few people know but for 2022 it is possible to pay the RAI license fee only 45 euros if this question arises
It is possible that you will be 75 years old once a year has already begun and that you will fall within the right to exemption. Or that you change your residence to a house where someone already pays the RAI fee, for example. Or, again, that no television sets are kept in any home. In these cases for 2022 it is still possible to apply for unsubscribe.
To be entitled to the exemption for the whole year, the declaration must be presented from July 1st of the previous year and by January 31st of the current year. If the application, on the other hand, is presented from 1 February to 30 June 2022, it will only take effect for the second half of the year. And it will be possible to pay the RAI 2022 license fee for only 45 euros, for the first half of the year.
