NEW YORK – An investigation is underway after the remains of a human fetus were discovered at a Rockland County pumping station Monday afternoon, the Rockland County Sheriff’s said Tuesday.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a county sewage district worker had made the horrific discovery in the drain at the Pascack Pumping Station in Nanuet.
According to officials, the pumping station is being checked regularly and for this reason, they believe the fetus likely entered the sewage system early Monday.
The fetus was turned over to the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The coroner’s office determined the fetus was approximately 18 weeks old. However, the office was unable to determine the sex or other characteristics in relation to the fetus at this time.
An investigation is underway.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, including family members, to contact the police. Tips can be called confidentially on the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 845-638-5500.
