The Fête de la Musique traditionally takes place at the beginning of the summer calendar – including in Hanover. A wide variety of bands played at a total of 13 locations from afternoon until late at night.
With these rhythms you almost feel like you are in Burkina Faso on Trammplatz in front of Hanover’s New Town Hall. The band Wapani comes from there and puts the audience in a good mood, as a passer-by admits: “I just love West African music and that’s the reason why I’m here.” Just a few meters further in the Maschpark, completely different sounds can be heard. On the children’s stage, the two clowns Manoli and Spax are looking for earth moon seeds. The two are performing again for the first time in a long time and are happy to see how well their young audience is doing.
On the Opernplatz in the middle of the city center it will be classic. The soloists follow the brass of the State Orchestra. They were allowed to choose what to perform at the Fête de la Musique. In addition to Spanish sounds, well-known Disney songs can also be heard here. A few steps further on Georgsplatz. Here a visitor is leaning against the barrier: “Even if my age is a bit advanced, I still like hip hop and it’s just pure joie de vivre.”
Enjoying music outside of the cordon
The last stop is the market church. Here the band Puder is doing the soundcheck. Most of the chairs are still empty. As everywhere, there is a cordoned off and seating area in front of the stage due to the hygiene concept. You can only get in here with prior online registration. Not everyone thinks that is great: “There are a thousand places free,” says one. “We can’t go in there. There are no toilets. There is no beer. I don’t like anything here.”
After all: The Puder concert could also be enjoyed outside the barricade without a ticket. Music and sounds are just free – across hygiene barriers.
