Many French people wanted to mark the occasion for the transition to the new year, Friday, December 31. Take a look back at a party night in Paris, Dijon or even Rennes.

At midnight, it was the effervescence on the avenue des Champs-Elysées, in Paris, in Friday December 31st. And even if this year, the fireworks were once again canceled on the most beautiful avenue in the world, everyone wanted to take advantage. “It’s my first time in Paris so I’m a little disappointed, but we’re having a good time anyway”, confides a tourist.

In a cabaret in Dijon (Côte-d’Or), the pandemic did not spoil the atmosphere. Even without getting up to dance, the customers were happy to party. “It could have been worse … We could have stayed at home alone, so it’s great anyway”, enthuses a customer. In Rennes too, in Ille-et-Vilaine, the party was in full swing. The police patrolled all night. 127,000 police and firefighters as well as 3,200 soldiers were mobilized throughout France to monitor compliance with barrier gestures, the health pass, and even the blood alcohol level.
