Valmiera Summer Theater Festival. August 4 – August 7

The Valmiera Summer Theater Festival is expanding this year – it will take place for four days from August 4 to 7, as well as several works of the festival will experience guest performances outside Valmiera.

The main theme of this year’s festival is “Freedom”. In total, the audience will be offered 9 productions, of which 6 will be new works, starting with performances for children and ending with performances of contemporary art and movement, but 3 – performances popular with previous years and also winning the “Players’ Night” awards.

There will also be various peculiar performances, such as the story of the Latvian composer Anna Ķirse’s “Cool” about Arctic lives, wild areas, gentle abandonment and expectations, which sit in the stomach and do not want to relax.

Art and Music Festival “Good Nature”. University of Latvia recreation complex “Ratnieki”, August 5 – August 7

While the summer is already slowly saying goodbye, the music festival “Good Nature” will definitely be the end of the festival summer right there, in the Līgatne recreation complex “Ratnieki”.

The festival will continue to supplement the musical program of the started tradition with theater and dance performances, performance art events and multimedia performances, giving them a barn or a dog stage.

More than 10 different performances and productions will delight small and large visitors, bringing the audience into the labyrinths of absurd theater, musical fairy tales and cognition of human existence.

The range of musicians, as always, is ethnically diverse – the central guest of the festival is expected to be the legendary German DJ WESTBAM, and then Roberts Gobziņš or EASTBAM will be heard there.

Also among the musicians – Ukrainian experimental music artist “Zavoloka”, rock musician from Israel “Agat”, “Salum Matata” from Tanzania, as well as a wide range of musicians representing Latvia – one of the most original domestic singers Katie Barbale, “Pigeons Full of Yards”, ZigZag ”,“ Auļi ”,“ New Midsummer Orchestra ”,“ Tesa ”, Evija Vēbere,“ Dairy Adventures ”and many others.

“Sanssouci”. Guest house “Susējas”, August 12 – August 14

Every year, on the second weekend of August, the territory of the residence center “Susēja” is dedicated to the alternative chamber music festival “Sansusi”.

The festival takes place in Aknīste region, in the yard of the former parish house of the no longer existing village “Susēja” and in the adjacent forests and felling areas.

In the festival, which is designed as an artistic adventure, spectators go to it as a unified adventure without recognizable words. All concerts and performances are equally important, so they do not take place at the same time, and there is a break of about an hour between the program, so that the audience can enjoy the aftertaste of the previous artistic experience and prepare for the next one internally.

In previous years, the best representatives of academic music from Latvia, as well as the legendary “new wave” group “Yellow Postmen”, the poet and artist Semyon Hanin, who had created an instrument called a ‘hafone’ especially for the festival. This device is designed as a continuation of the body with percussion, sounding in the rhythm of reading the text.

World Music Festival “Porta”. Open Air Museum, August 20

The World Music Festival “PORTA” annually represents a mix of different cultures and experiences, offering high-class “world music” concerts here in Latvia.

This year, the central venue will be the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, where we will hear a specially selected association of musicians, which is still called “Yemen Blues”.

From the very beginning, the original sound created by the Yemeni blues became a new language of contemporary music, made up of musicians from New York, Uruguay and Tel Aviv. The Sámi Joiku Association and the French folk group LaLaLa Napoli, with their Neapolitan roots, have been on the scene for almost three decades.

The band returns to the roots of Neapolitan music and develops it with the passage of time, including the Neapolitan dance “Tarantella”.

And one of the most anticipated events is the big concert of the Ukrainian folk music or “ethnic chaos” association “DakhaBrakha” on the Mežaparks stage, on August 25.

“Ezisfest”. Tallinas Street quarter in Riga, August 27

May the annual jandāliņš named “Ezīšfests” close the summer of 2022 in the quarter of Tallinas Street already on August 27.

The festival will be held for the tenth year this year and attracts thousands of young people every year with its attractive program. “Hedgehog 2021” gathered more than 4,000 enjoyers of life, and this year, the anniversary year of the festival, it promises to be even more grandiose and richer.

The first artists of the festival will be announced very soon.
