Festival Ploegendienst turns out to be a corona fire: ‘Were hardly checked’

The Ploegendienst Festival, which was held in Breda on 3 and 4 July, was a huge corona fire. This is evident from the figures of the GGD West Brabant. A total of 423 positive cases can be traced back to the festival.

“Testing for access was not properly complied with. QR codes were hardly checked, no ID check was done either. People were pushed in at a high pace,” says a report by the RIVM. The staff also did not have to be tested, because an employer is not allowed to do so.

Visitors
A visitor tells Omroep Brabant that his identity card was not checked once. “When I got to the entrance on Sunday, it wasn’t busy at all, but the checks were really bad. Without even looking at it, my ticket was scanned via my phone. And my ID was certainly not asked for. friends and I thought that was pretty crazy,” he explains. Another visitor relates that visitors were transported to and from the festival in overcrowded shuttle buses.

Other visitors say that they are well checked: “I’ve been here myself and it was very well checked!” Other visitors also declare on social media that the checks at the festival were fine. “I was even checked twice in a row,” writes one. RIVM cannot be reached on Wednesday afternoon for more information.

GGD
The GGD does not want to comment on the inspection at the festival. In any case, it is clear that the 40-hour validity of a negative test was too long and that partying immediately after the Janssen vaccine was also not wise, the GGD explains. Both measures have since been tightened.

10,000 visitors per day were present at the Breda festival. RIVM reports the corona clusters of the past two weeks across the country:

A cluster is spoken of if more than ten visitors are found to be infected afterwards.

Not all festivals
There were also festivals that did not have many infections. At ‘Harmony of Hardcore: Live Again!’ on 3 and 4 July in Erp there were 11,000 visitors a day, but hardly any infections were reported, according to figures from the GGD.

According to organizer Tijn Kapteijns, the Breda festival has adhered to all the rules. “It is not at all certain whether they have contracted those infections with us,” he tells Omroep Brabant.
