Festival of Lights lights up the Old Town and Prague Castle gardens this year – News

Large video maps, which in the past were on Karlín Square or on the “Mírák” in Vinohrady, moved this year to the City Library building on Mariánské náměstí and also to the Archbishop’s Palace in Hradčany.

In connection with the Signal festival, people will have the opportunity to walk around Prague Castle for the first time ever. The creators light up the works on the two kilometer long route.

The first stop is the Equestrian Hall of Prague Castle, where Korean artist Seohyo created a colorful projection made up of elements of Prague architecture. Further along the way, Filip Hodas’ video mapping of the Archbishop’s Palace awaits visitors.

“The twelfth year will begin on October 10 at 19:00 with a ceremonial opening in front of the Archbishop’s Palace on Hradčanské náměstí. It is accessible for free to anyone who wants to see a video mapping of Eternal Recurrence by digital creator Filip Hodas for the first time. This internationally known Czech artist, whose work is becoming viral, brilliantly plays with the border between fiction and reality. The art show will be accompanied by the music of one of the most successful producers and DJs in the Czech Republic, Pavel Ridoška alias Rida,” Karolína Kostková, marketing director at Signal Festival, told Novinkám.

Videomapping Eternal Recurrence (Eternal Recurrence), created for the architecture of the Archbishop’s Palace on Hradčanské náměstí. The author is the artist Filip Hodas.

“The creation starts with scanning the face, then creating a digital replica of it, which I adjust to the actual size. We then create digital images of it. When they are then projected back onto the surface, it matches the facade and creates the illusion that it is a space,” said Filip Hodas.

He also admitted that the work was more challenging for him because it is located next to the Castle. Thanks to the festival’s collaboration with Prague Castle, people can also enter its southern gardens for free, where they can see an object that mirrors its surroundings by the Spanish studio SpY.

“SpY is an artist who does not show himself, he has an unknown image. The piece works with Egypt, with the pyramids and was first presented in Giza. The pyramids of Egypt, as we know, were built on precise mathematical principles. If we worked with similar principles to the dimensions of the globe, we could reach similar results when measuring the circumference of the globe and the length of the perimeter of the pyramid,” said festival curator Pavel Mrkus to Novinkám.

The castle route also includes the Gallery Zone, but entry to it is subject to the purchase of a ticket. As part of it, it is possible to visit the National Gallery of Prague – the construction of the Šternber Palace with memorabilia by Jiří Příhoda, as well as the interactive projection of Michael Bielický and Kamila B. Richter in the Schwarzenberg Palace of the National Gallery of Prague.

Their work can be controlled by the audience itself thanks to the direction in the middle of the courtyard and thus change the elements on the walls. The gallery route ends at the Kunsthalle Prague. Here you can see the presentation of the British group UVA, which is known, for example, for its collaboration with the music group Massive Attack.

Walking distance through the center

The tour through the Old Town begins with a video mapping of Mariánské náměstí. The facade of the City Library inspired the video mapping exhibition of the Spanish-Danish visual duo Desilence.

His projection Rhythm of the Ocean transporting the audience to the depths of the powerful element with musical support from the winner of five Grammy Awards Suzanne Ciani.

Inspired by the QR code motif and the geometric shape of the monolith, the installation shows the interface between parallel living worlds.

The audience during the show titled Iron Horse: Fractured they will find themselves in the role of passengers waiting for the train and follow the stories of the characters through the windows of passing trains.

The exhibition The Red Pill will then take place in the Trafo Gallery.

“It combines technology with the Czech spirit. Artists like Pavel Korbička, Tereza Severová, Michal Pustějovský and others work with light, algorithms and codes to offer a new perspective on the harmony of the world, similar to the red pipe from the Matrix. The exhibition will be accompanied by evening outings by the authors Jan Poš, Lukáš Dřevjané, Pavel Holeček, Marek Čihara and Aleš Hvízdal, and will be open for free until midnight during the festival,” said the marketing director Kostková.
