Festival 2Annas offers film programs for children and young people – Cinema – Culture + – TVNET

April 9 at At 12:00 there will be a children’s competition program “Let’s go hand in hand”. Short films make us think about how connected we all are, including the world of humans and animals. Although we are different, they will be stories of friendship and love. Among the films are both Latvian author Mara Linina ‘s “Chuchi Chu” and Seung Bae Jeon “Battery Dad” (Korea), Ezgi Su Korkmaz “The Fallen” (Hungary) and other short films from around the world. In turn, a little later, at 14:30, the youth audience (12+) is invited to the screening “I believe deep in my heart” – about the need to trust the heart, not just the mind. The Canadian director’s animation “Disagreements” will be a warning story full of black humor, which portrays the difficulties of maintaining family balance, while Ana Horvat’s (Croatia) film “Outing” will tell about a couple whose romantic day is interrupted by a storm. Will these conditions bring them closer or apart?

The competition programs for children and young people differ significantly from other competition programs in that the winner of the prize is determined by the spectators. In previous years, school-age children and young people who were passionate and serious about film screening have said that this is a great opportunity to get to know cinema from all over the world, see what’s happening outside of Hollywood and usually only see it when traveling to international short film festivals. Screenings are an active, discussion-provoking process – the content of the programs not only reflects current topics, but also develops critical thinking and media literacy.

Ron Rosenberg, a teacher and artist of Swiss cinema and theater, is the curator of the children’s and youth program of the Riga International Short Film Festival. His main principle is to design the screenings in such a way as to inspire the youngest viewers to think about socially important topics. The themes covered in the films in the 2Anna Children and Youth Program can then be discussed and analyzed in social studies classes, parenting classes and other activities.

Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas” will take place from April 8 to 14 at KKC Diagonal, KSuns cinema gallery, as well as on the website of 2Annas.lv. “2Annas” is organized by the Virtual Studio URGA, the festival is supported by the State Cultural Capital Foundation and the National Film Center.
