GM also reports a lot of reservations for the boss bully Hummer EV.
Big electrical things are happening in the US.
Not only is the electric car beacon Tesla constantly gaining new shares and is at full speed entering the list of the largest car manufacturers, but the very largest in the USA, Ford, is also well underway.
In fact, they now have a place with electric cars in all the major segments – the SUV side is covered by the Mustang Mach-E, on the pickup front they offer the F-150 Lightning and in the van segment they are now in place with the E-Transit.
But they should not be allowed to rip off electric car customers like that without resistance.
The other giant across the pond is General Motors (GM), and this group also has a fairly large electric venture underway. And like Ford, they entice with cars that should have a pretty decent sales potential.
The most important GM brand will undoubtedly be Chevrolet, which is already a small electric car pioneer. Because in 2016, they were able to present their first mass-produced electric car, the Bolt, which is better known here in Europe through its sister model, the Opel Ampera-e.
And Chevrolet has already followed this up by presenting two new electric cars that should be able to take market share, namely the Blazer EV and Equinox EV. Both of these are scheduled to arrive next year – the Blazer EV in the summer and the Equinox EV sometime in the fall.
Cadillac, another brand under the GM umbrella, has long since shown off another promising electric car, the Lyriq. This is also planned for next year, and more precisely in the second half of the year.
A little more unknown is the GMC brand, but they are now behind one of the most recognizable car models in history – namely the beast called Hummer. The new and electric version is simply called the Hummer EV.
GMC is planning to make both a pickup version and an SUV version of the Hummer EV, and the brand is also working on an all-electric version of the Sierra pickup.
The fourth brand in the GM group, Buick, is a little more on the back foot, but has if nothing else announced that they will appear with their first electric car on the North American market in 2024. And how seriously they are betting shows the name.
The electric car will inherit the legendary Electra name, known from the former Buick flagship with the same name that was in place for several decades. In other words, the upcoming electric car carries a great legacy.
It is therefore a big electric bet signed by the GM brands, and then we have not mentioned the one with the greatest potential – namely a real rival to the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The Chevrolet Silverado is among the very best-selling car models in the USA, and is also among the 10 best-selling cars globally. The model will be a key when GM and Chevrolet will press the electric gas pedal all the way to the floor.
The all-electric version of the pick-up favorite is scheduled to be in place already in the spring, and if we are to believe GM, there are very many people waiting for it.
Because when the group presented the report for the 2nd quarter, they also stated how many people have reserved the Silverado EV, and it is not a few!
According to the report, the electric car has 150,000 reservations, and we can compare it with the total sales of electric cars to the large Volkswagen group. The group with brands such as Audi, Porsche, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen delivered 118,000 electric cars in the 2nd quarter, and so far in 2022 they have delivered 217,000 electric cars.
If we include the reservations for the GMC Hummer EV, which is 80,000, there are therefore 230,000 reservations for the Silverado EV and Hummer EV – more electric cars than the German group has sold so far this year.
Time will tell how many of those who have reserved the cars actually go on to order them, but this shows in any case that big electrical things are now also happening over in the car country of the USA.
