The project is of a private nature by the company Amurfet and has an investment of USD 2.2 billion, according to statements by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the company Amurfet, Agostinho Kapaia, who spoke yesterday at the land de-annexation contract. in favor of the company. Agostinho Kapaia said that with the industrial project, Angola will stop importing fertilizers, and the need for urea to produce this important product for agriculture is around between 50 and 100 tons, and up to one million and 200 tons will be produced.
“For the national market we can supply up to 300 thousand tons and the rest will be used for export as it is a very important commodity for economies”, he said. According to the businessman, the project has several phases. Equipment is currently being acquired and construction of the manufacturing unit that will produce urea and ammonia will begin next year.
Regarding the raw material, the businessman guaranteed that it is assured and has partners such as Sonangol to supply gas. “It is a structuring project for the diversification of the economy and will contribute to the Executive’s strategy of increasing domestic production, mainly in the field of agriculture”, he highlighted. For Agostinho Kapaia, the project is not only important for agriculture, but for increasing foreign exchange and increasing exports, with several countries already making contacts for the supply of fertilizers.
In turn, the governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, said that the factory is extremely important due to the fact that it will provide greater growth at the province level, with the employability of two thousand people. “We are talking about a large fertilizer factory in Angola that will eliminate the import of fertilizers and facilitate agricultural producers. We will stop importing fertilizers from Zambia and other countries,” he assured.
