Fertiberia has failed the awards for its Chair of Environmental Studies and agro-environmental innovation has been awarded again, one more year, at the graduation ceremony of Etsiaab students.
On this occasion, Sara Lacalle Olarte and Paula Isla García have been awarded for their innovative Final Master’s and Final Degree projects, respectively, in the agri-environmental field. With a prize of 1,000 euros per category, these awards promote research and development of sustainable solutions that improve agricultural productivity without compromising the balance of ecosystems.
In the category “Fertilizers, fertilization or their influence on plant production”, Sara Lacalle Olarte’s Master’s Thesis, entitled “Project to establish a 6 ha vineyard with highly mechanized conduction and management systems in Cenicero, La Rioja”, was highlighted for its innovative approach to advanced mechanization and efficient management of crops.
For its part, in the category “Relationship of agricultural systems with the environment”, Paula Isla García’s Final Degree Project, entitled “Electrolytic green hydrogen and its use in obtaining renewable ammonia”, was recognized as a significant progress in the development of renewable energies applied to agriculture.
Both projects reflect the application of knowledge acquired during their academic training in key areas for the development of more sustainable agriculture. The awards ceremony took place within the framework of the graduation of the UPM, held at the Higher Technical School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to agro-environmental research.
During the ceremony, Javier Brañas, R&D director of Fertiberia Groupstressed the importance of research for global advancement as well as the establishment of alliances between the different actors in the sector: “Collaboration between the academic world and industry is crucial to achieve relevant advances. The students that we reward today have not only acquired knowledge, but they have also demonstrated a great ability to apply everything they have learned to real problems, developing ideas that can transform the way we manage our crops and resources today,” he said.
Fertiberia Chair of Agro-Environmental Studies
Created in 2007 as a result of collaboration between Fertiberia and the UPM, the Fertiberia Chair of Agro-Environmental Studies has as its main mission to promote research in sustainable fertilization, promoting competitive and environmentally friendly agriculture.
To this end, it contemplates activities such as the promotion of studies on aspects related to efficient and environmentally friendly fertilization, the development of research activity on new fertilizers and new agricultural techniques, and the dissemination of knowledge and technologies on best practices in mineral nutrition. Likewise, cooperation programs are promoted, both by professionals and students and graduates of the center.
Activities
Located in the Higher Technical School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering (Etsiaab), the Chair is directed by Professor Augusto Arce Martínez and has a Monitoring Commission, in charge of the analysis and execution of the activities, made up of three representatives. from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and three representatives of Fertiberia.
