Stuttgart – For teachers, schoolchildren and parents it should be information that will make them sit up and take notice: The Ferry Porsche Foundation wants to donate one million euros for the digitization of schools. All schools from Baden-Württemberg and Saxony can apply for funding – as part of the second “Ferry Porsche Challenge”.
The first “Ferry Porsche Challenge” was launched last year. Back then, one million euros was also distributed – for pioneering projects in the areas of social affairs, the environment, education and science, as well as culture and sport. This time it is about better digital equipment in schools. Each school can submit up to two digitization projects.
Online voting for the best applications
“We take on social responsibility under the motto ‘Make schools digitally’,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ferry Porsche Foundation. “Digitization has become a decisive factor in international competition. It is all the more important to get young people excited about this topic at school. ”The foundation wants to make a contribution to this.
The donation competition runs in several stages: The application phase begins on November 9, 2020 and ends on February 28, 2021. The foundation will make a pre-selection from all applications received up to then. It checks whether the submitted projects meet the funding criteria. This includes the close cooperation of the students and teachers in the team as well as the clear focus on the topic of digitization of schools.
100,000 euros for the first three places
In a public online voting, all interested citizens can then vote for their favorites. The 29 projects with the most votes are nominated for the final. There the teams can present their concept digitally. A top-class jury will ultimately decide on the placements. In addition to the members of the Board of Trustees of the Ferry Porsche Foundation, this includes the mayors of Stuttgart and Leipzig as well as the editors-in-chief of the media partners Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Stuttgarter Zeitung and Leipziger Volkszeitung.
The foundation awards three first places, each endowed with 100,000 euros, six second places with 50,000 euros each and eight third places with 25,000 euros each. All teams nominated for the finals also have the chance to win two special prizes endowed with 75,000 euros. These go to extraordinary school projects that are rated as unique by the jury. The remaining ten finalists will each receive a grant of 5,000 euros.
