Ferrero, Kinder Eggs withdrawn in the UK due to 57 cases of salmonella- Corriere.it

Ferrero withdrew several batches of Kinder eggs from the market in England and Ireland two weeks before Easter for a potential link to a salmonella outbreak. The news, reported by some British media, citing the Food Standards Agency (Fsa) as a source, was confirmed to Ansa by the company, which ordered the withdrawal as a precaution. The affected eggs were made at the Arlon plant in Belgium. At least 57 cases of salmonella have been reported and attributable to Kinder products, including a certain number of children. The recall concerns single and multipack Kinder Surprise eggs, a popular treat marketed for children that contains small collectible toys inside a chocolate shell.

The company voluntarily carried out this product withdrawal – the Fsa points out – as a precautionary measure. We are working closely with them and the relevant authorities to identify the precise cause of this outbreak. The lure comes just as candy brands are competing for space on supermarket shelves ahead of Easter, which in Britain is celebrated by massive buying of chocolate eggs. A big blow for Ferrero, as the Food Standards Agency (FSA) advised customers to purchase the affected products, with expiration dates between July 11 and October 7.
