Ferrari’s Recovery in Formula 1: Vasseur Discusses Silverstone Expectations and Technical Market Updates

Vasseur doesn’t expect miracles at Silverstone

In the last two world championship events in Montreal and the Red Bull Ring, the Ferrari has given signs of recovery, showing greater competitiveness than in the recent past, thanks to the updates that the team has brought before the expected roadmap on the SF-23. The aerodynamic review of the car has allowed Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to clearly be the second force on the track, and both have in fact managed to conquer a position in the top3, the Monegasque with second place in the Sunday race and the Spanish third in the Sprint.

During a long interview granted to Leo Turrini for Quotidiano Nazionale, the team principal Frederic Vasseur wanted to joke about the date of Ferrari’s return to victory: “We will win when Verstappen and Perez knock each other out – he grins the head of the Cavallino racing department – maybe it will happen sooner than expected”.

The transalpine manager then faced the same question seriously: “We are all working towards that goal, God forbid. We made progress, last Sunday in Austria we were the second force behind Red Bull. Expectations for Silverstone? To be honest, with very fast corners, the English track it is not the most suitable for us. On the other hand, there will be occasions in which we will meet better, I think Budapest and Singapore“.

Technical market chapter

Finally, Vasseur did not shy away from talking about the lively market concerning engineers, starting from the top technician taken away from the competition: “I won’t tell you the name, we will do it when the person in question is free from current commitments”and moving on to the thorny Laurent Mekies question: “There are negotiating logics, market things. But since Mekies announced he was leaving, rest assured he has been excluded from information on our technical development.”. The French manager then underlined that the 2024 project is already in the wind tunnel and that the current technical organization chart includes Enrico Cardile as technical director and chassis manager, Enrico Gualtieri as head of the power unit department and Diego Tondi as aerodynamics manager. Closure at work in Ferrari: “There is a pressure that does not exist elsewhere” and on the trust between him and President John Elkann: “I feel it 100%.”
