Despite having the worst start to the season of his career, Sebastian Vettel told Autosport he was not frustrated, although he admits that he “has already been in a happier place”.

With sixteen points taken in six contested Grands Prix, Sebastian Vettel is having the worst start to the season of his career. The 33-year-old German driver is playing his last season with Ferrari in 2020, and has a car in great difficulty, even though his teammate Charles Leclerc managed to collect 45 points. Asked by Autosport if he felt frustration at such a difficult start to the season, the quadruple world champion did not want to be too affirmative.

“I don’t know if it’s good to rank the best seasons or the best races. I know a lot of people tend to say it was my best or my worst race, or my best or my worst performance. But it’s hard to say that because there are so many races, explains the German. Whatever the situation, I trust the people around me and the guys who work on my car. I’m struggling this season because of a lack of confidence, and that lack of confidence comes from the lack of grip. We’re still trying to figure out where it’s coming from, but at the same time, we have to make progress, move forward and attack again. I am not frustrated. Like I said before, I’ve been to a happier place before. I love to fight at the forefront, to feel the feeling that you can accomplish big goals. It will be difficult this year with the “package” we have, but I think Charles has proven that we can still have good races. If you sum it up, it’s not the best start to the season of my career. But I won’t go so far as to say that there is frustration. “Next Sunday, the drivers will attack a new triptych of Grands Prix, with the Spa menu in Belgium, and Monza and Mugello in Italy, circuits where he has already triumphed six times during his career (three times at Spa, three times in Monza). But that was another time, and getting on the podium this year would already be a great performance.
