Ferrari Testa Rossa J, 93,000 euro electric replica: don’t call it a toy

The history of Ferrari is full of models that have made the history of the world of cars and motorsport. Among these there is certainly the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, an iconic model produced between 1957 and 1961. For collectors it is a very precious piece even if within the reach of a few given the very high market prices. But if the original is unattainable, you can opt for a 75% scale version (measures 3.1 x 1.1 x 0.7 meters) built by The Little Car Company (which had already made a “reduced” version of the Aston Martin DB5) in collaboration with Maranello.

Is called Ferrari Testa Rossa J and although it may pass for a very expensive gift for some scion of wealthy families, it is anything but a toy given its refined features. In addition, this special car is equipped with an electric powertrain. However, sports performance should not be expected given the powers involved. It can be driven from the age of 14 but not on roads open to traffic.

CHARACTERISTICS

The Ferrari Testa Rossa J meticulously reproduces the lines of the 250 Testa Rossa designed by Scaglietti. The attention to detail was obsessive. The body is made in hand-beaten aluminum, the same process used in the original model. The paint is the same as applied to the current range of Ferrari road cars. To faithfully recreate the chassis of the 250 Testa Rossa, the original designs were scanned and digitally recreated.

This particular model features the same steering and suspension geometry as the original car. The same meticulousness is also found in the interiors. The Ferrari Style Center has designed a seat on which an adult or a teenager can sit. The upholstery is in the same fine leather found on modern Ferraris. The steering wheel is made by Nardi, the same specialized company that supplied this element to the 1957 model. The steering wheel has a quick release system to facilitate the driver’s entry and exit.

The instrumentation follows the original one even if it has been modified for the needs of managing an electric motor. For example, the oil and water gauges now monitor battery and engine temperatures, while the fuel gauge shows the battery level. The tachometer has become a speedometer. The 12-inch wheels are handmade and feature Pirelli tires.

The 12 kW electric motor it is powered by three batteries that allow an autonomy of up to 90 km. 4 driving modes are available to the driver.

  • Novice mode: 1 kW of power and a maximum speed of 20 km / h
  • Comfort mode: 4 kW of power and 45 km / h of maximum speed
  • Sport mode: maximum speed of 60 km / h
  • Race mode: maximum speed of 60 km / h with better acceleration performance

The Ferrari Testa Rossa J will be produced in only 299 specimens. The starting price is very important: 93,000 euros plus taxes. Cost that can rise quickly by drawing on the options available.
