Ferran Torres Breaks Barcelona’s Free Kick Drought with Goal in Real Betis Match

Ferran Torres was among Barcelona’s scorers in the Real Betis match, which ended, on Saturday evening, 5-0 in favor of Xavi Hernandez’s sons.

Torres became the first player to score a goal from a free kick since the departure of Argentine star Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.

The last free kick Barcelona scored was from Leo’s feet against Valencia in May 2021.

According to the Opta statistics network, since then, Barcelona players have executed 41 free kicks, none of which resulted in a goal.

“Sudden confession” from Ferran Torres

The Barca Blaugrana website quoted Ferran as saying after the end of the match:

Actually my idea was to kick the free kick over the wall, but I made a mistake. But in the end, the ball went into the goal, which is the important thing. Barcelona has made a qualitative leap with the new players, and we are working very well. This year we will have a more cohesive team.
