Fernando Santos will probably become the new coach of the Polish football team. The Portuguese arrived in Warsaw on Monday evening, AP and Portuguese media reported. Later, the head of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, posted a photo of himself with the coach on Twitter, writing: “See you tomorrow at the press conference.”
Kulesza will announce the name of the new coach on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Warsaw. On Monday, a video appeared on the sport.pl portal, which shows the 68-year-old Santos leaving the VIP lounge at the Warsaw airport.
Former coach Czeslaw Michniewicz’s contract expired on December 31. The management of PZPN did not extend his contract despite the first progress of the national team to the round of 16 of the World Cup since 1986. Kulesza had previously announced that the new helmsman would be a foreigner with experience in leading the national team.
Santos last coached the Portuguese national team, where he worked for eight years.
