Fernando Burlando: The Media Lawyer with a Passion for Agriculture

the figure of Fernando Burlando It is related to the judicial stands and resonant cases that had him as the protagonist. But, beyond his facet as a media lawyer, few know his link with the agricultural sector.

Approximately a decade ago, the lawyer acquired an establishment in the town of Flowers, which is complemented by other extensions that he also owns in the province of Buenos Aires, where he chooses to rest with his partner Barby Franco and her 3 daughters (two from his first marriage, 28 and 30 years old, and a 5-month-old baby).

Although it is not his main activity, Burlando stated before TN who considers himself an agricultural producer “from the heart”.

“The person who loves nature, who adores a sunset at sea, the same thing also happens with a sunset in the countryside. I relate it to that mystique of tranquility and peace, but also with work. I was interested in investing in the sector first for mental health, and second for economic health”, he responded when asked why he was the first generation of his family to decide to bet on farming.

Burlando asserted that he is mainly dedicated to livestock, with red specimens of the Angus breed. He also raises sheep, although in a “more recreational than commercial” way, chickens and horses, which he uses to play polo on two courts he has in the countryside. While his wife Barby is in charge of an orchard in the place.

The lawyer said that he also does “a little agriculture”, such as planting soybeans, but mostly to feed the animals. “Now I want to make a great pasture, because I understand that I fell short for the winter,” he commented.

Although he has employees who help him, he said that takes care of some country chores. “Sometimes I vaccinate the cows. I like to ride a horse, because I play polo, and when the cattle have to be herded, I take care of it together with the local staff. We also plant several trees with Barby. He is a job that I enjoy, in which I have a good time. He is a way to find a break at work, it is therapeutic. I am a small producer, but with a lot of ego”, he described.

Mocking clarified that he opts for the traditional pastoral system, because he is not convinced by fattening in the pen. “I don’t really agree with the feedlot. I don’t like it, it seems to me that it is not the best for the human being and the animal. With Barby and my daughters we have a very naturist lifestyle.”.

Along with his role as an agricultural producer, the renowned jurist also often visits sector shows, such as the Rural Exhibition of Palermo and Expoagro, where he attended the last edition that was held in San Nicolás, to learn about the offer of agricultural machinery.

In fact, A little over a year ago, he acquired a tractor with a shovel. “It’s a big one, 110 (horsepower), I drive it. There are a lot of trees and internal roads, which means that in addition to the activity of the field, I have to take care of maintenance. That’s why, I have 3 or 4 tractors”.

Looking ahead, He did not rule out providing the hotel service in the establishment. “Outside the town, I have a place to accommodate 20 people, where before we received foreigners who wanted to learn to play polo. At some point I thought of link the countryside with tourism, because I have a very important infrastructure. In addition, I make one of the best barbecues in Argentina”.

“The countryside is a very punished sector”

Burlando assured that this year he suffered the consequences of the drought. “I made a significant reduction in animals, because I don’t want them to have a bad winter. Perhaps it was a sale at the wrong time, but I’d rather lose than sacrifice part of the farm tomorrow.”

During the interview, Burlando ratified his candidacy for governor of Buenos Aires, with his own party, and thus denied some journalistic versions that he would give up his candidacy. “I never got off, I don’t know why they said that“, She complained.

In this adverse context for the sector, he assured that he would focus on tax benefits for agriculture, in case of being elected as Buenos Aires president.

“When we talk about aid to the countryside, unfortunately we only talk about giving credits, putting producers in more trouble and sinking them further. I have a project to help them, especially regarding tax exemptions and certain charges for the incorporation of personnel, although obviously for that, legislative changes are also required, ”he considered.

In this sense, he qualified as “a great injustice” to withholdings. “The sector is very punished and has a great Damocles sword on their backs. They have declared him an enemy, when there is nothing more enjoyable and friend for Argentina than the countryside, which has built this nation”.
