« ohWe are going to try to rewrite what we do on the street on the stage! », says Romain, the sousaphone player of the Incognitos. This group of six, made up of Alex and Nicolas on vocals and sax, Alban and Franck on trumpet, Romain on sousaphone and Fabien on drums, is used to feria. They have been participating for over thirty years and are felt wherever they go. But they are not used to the big stage of Poly’ssons. This year, this is part of their challenge: to capture the audience from a distance and cross the stage.
The platform, a new challenge
“It is true that we are used to playing in the street, being close to people. The work on the stage is not the same, but they are two different joys,” said Alex, a singer and saxophonist. “On the street, we are as close as we like and we can go drink with people afterwards, chat with them… On the stage, the power of sound, the effects of light, the choreography and the difficulty of the musicians,” he adds. They play on stage all year round, but they worked especially hard this winter to be at their best this summer. “And the challenge was successful. It worked very, very well at the Bayonne Festival! », cheering Alex. Broken in and rested since then, they are “hot” for Saturday night.
And ready for a marathon! Apart from the stage, the group of friends is preparing to give eleven shows in five days. “And on Monday night, we’re in Parentis, we play in a restaurant. We won’t stop,” continues Alex. “It’s very physical, it needs conditions, especially for the lips,” said the saxophonist. But then, what’s the secret to keeping caught? “Drugs” mocks one. “The friendship between us!” We get along so well that when one of them is tired, the others are there and vice versa,” said the other.
The strength of friendship
Because the recipe for Incognitos is the strength of friendship. “This has been going on for thirty-five years!” We carry the values of sharing, respect and loyalty,” explained Alex. And they apply these values at parties, but also in the music world in general. “We played in Belgium recently for musician friends. They had wanted to celebrate Dax for a long time. This year, we introduced them. It’s an exchange and that’s what makes us successful,” explained the singer.
The street, their music school
Friendship is also at the beginning of the establishment of the group. While they were all in Bordeaux and from different musical groups (band, harmony, etc.), they met at La Victoire to play every Thursday evening. The Ricard brand saw them, they started a tour with the company, who informed them. “The street was our music school and we became professional after that with the group,” explains Alex. Their other strength? No specified style. Pop, rock, ska, mix, mambo, salsa, funk… They cover a wide range of music and reach a large audience.
On the stage on Saturday afternoon, in the peñas of the Bullfighting Club and Alegria or in bars, you know where to find them these five days!
