From the web

Ferdinando Carretta, who in 1989, in Parma, killed his parents and brother, died in Forlì, where he had lived since he returned to freedom. He was traced only nine years later, when he had moved to England. Carretta was 61 years old and lived in Forlì, in a house that he had bought with the family inheritance. He worked for a social cooperative and, as we learn, he had been ill for some time.

Ferdinando Carretta killed his parents and younger brother in the family home when he was 27 years old. Later he ran away to the UK. He publicly confessed to his crime during a television interview in November 1998. Recognized as incapable of understanding at the time of the crime, Carretta was sentenced to imprisonment in a judicial psychiatric prison. In semi-freedom since 2004, he returned to full freedom in 2015.

The TV show “Who saw it?” played an important role in the investigation and in the resolution of the case: it was in fact thanks to a report it re-launched to the police that the family’s vehicle was found three months after the disappearance of its members and it was to a journalist from the Rai program that , in 1998, Ferdinando Carretta released his guilty plea even before making it to the public prosecutor.
