It is a victory for the sugar beet industry, but a defeat for environmentalists and bees. On Tuesday, October 6, the National Assembly adopted the bill allowing the reintroduction of neonicotinoids, a bee-killing pesticide. Its temporary authorization until 2023, with an exemption and only for beet growers, is justified by the absence of alternative solutions to fight against the proliferation of a green aphid, responsible for beet “yellows”.
