Fenerbahçe’s Controversial Training Camp in Russia: Dynamo Kyiv Condemns Russian Violence Against Ukraine

Dynamo Kyiv has hit hard at Fenerbahçe. The Turkish top club is organizing a training camp in Russia and will play an exhibition game with FC Zenit on Sunday. The Ukrainian top club believes that Fenerbahçe contributes to justifying Russian violence against Ukraine.

“Fenerbahçe, you have no honor and conscience! Shame on you!” Dynamo writes in a harsh statement on the club site.

The club also lashes out at the largest Russian gas company Gazprom, which has owned FC Zenit since 2005. Since the takeover, Zenit has become the richest club in Russia. President Vladimir Putin is a big fan of the club. “For the blood money of Gazprom, Fenerbahçe puts aside his honor and conscience,” says Dynamo.

Fenerbahçe and Dynamo have been at odds for some time now. When the two clubs met in the preliminary round of the Champions League, supporters of the Turkish club wore a mask with Putin’s face. When Dynamo took a 0-1 lead, Putin’s name was chanted by the Turkish supporters. The Ukrainian club writes about this: “When your supporters wore masks of Europe’s greatest sadist, you were silent. Now it is clear why.”

UEFA and FIFA have banned Russian clubs from participating in international tournaments, and you are going to play football there to earn money,” continues Dynamo. “Nothing can justify this step. You help murderers to continue to carry out massacres on Ukrainian territory.”
