Fence Installation at Monument to Soviet Army Begins Amid Controversy

Installation of the fence near the Monument to the Soviet Army has begun, as the monument is in an emergency condition. The order is from the regional governor Vyara Todeva. Early in the morning, Maya Manolova announced on Facebook: “The police confirmed that this morning they are preparing to fulfill the government’s order to the assembly to enclose the monument and remove the tent camp. From the LEFT! we will oppose the enclosure and dismantling of the monument” . As you know, tent camping is illegal. But until now the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, did not want to be removed.

Maya Manovola specified that a complaint was filed against the fence by citizens in the Administrative Court in Sofia. The left has categorically stated that they have no intention of moving their tent camp in defense of the monument.

Last night, the photo of civil activist Petar Tanev blew up social networks. It shows two cordons of heavily armed policemen guarding the monument and the four beach tents of its defenders, led by Maya Manolova. The expected clash of “Levski” fans with the group from the tents did not take place, because the police had fenced off the entire Prince’s Garden and allowed only representatives of “Levitsa” and “Vazrazhdane” to the monument. One person was arrested for throwing a bottle at the monument.

Kostadin Kostadinov also appeared in front of the monument. As witnesses wrote, to demonstrate fearlessness, he was admitted to the pedestrian zone by car. Levski fans threatened him last week, as Kostadinov called them janissaries in a Facebook post. The police operation on the unseen guard was led by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Petar Todorov, whom President Radev refused to remove from his post despite his dissatisfaction with the work of the government of Nikolay Denkov.

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said this morning that the actions of the police were correct and “many citizens and media congratulated us”.

Four Levski fans died in a serious accident

Four supporters of “Levski” died in a serious accident on the Sofia-Varna road near the village of Bulgarene. The tragic accident happened around midnight at the junction for Troyan and Lovech. According to preliminary data from the police, there was a collision between a car and a truck, and a total of five people were traveling in the car and only one of them survived. He was transported to a medical facility.

In the social network, the fans of “Levski” share that everyone traveling in the car was going home to Gabrovo after the team’s match last night in Sofia. Users say that the dead are a father and son, as well as their two friends. The survivor is the father’s other son.
