feminist protest in the zócalo – Telemundo San Antonio (60)

MEXICO CITY – Several contingents of Mexico City police prevented a group of women protesting in the Plaza de la Constitución, better known as the Zócalo, from accessing the National Palace on Sunday.

The women, mostly dressed in black and with their faces covered, demand justice for Susana “G”, a victim of femicide. They met at the Monument to the Revolution and from there they marched towards the Zócalo, where they await the arrival of more women.

The groups of policemen, positioned along the Zócalo plateau, and in small contingents in front of the National Palace, as can be seen in images from the surveillance cameras of the City government, carry out what they call “encapsulation”, a practice that has been disqualified by Human Rights.

The federal government has taken action against this crime, but there are still no positive results.

Citizen Security personnel remain on the lookout, although they closed the entrances to the National Palace, where the Mexican president lives and dispatches, and they have not reacted when women approach and paint the protection shields.

Several of the businesses that are located in that first square of the City, where the capital’s government headquarters and the Metropolitan Cathedral are also, closed operations due to the possibility of violence during the protest.

The Zócalo station of the capital metro also ceased operations, so passengers must board or alight one station earlier or one later.

This is information in development.
