Femicide. The policeman suspected of having killed his girlfriend has been taken into custody

The policeman suspected of feminicide on his partner, found dead by strangulation in Paris on January 28, was arrested without incident on Tuesday morning, announced the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. “He is now available to justice,” he said. This 29-year-old peacekeeper was arrested in the Var and placed in police custody for “intentional homicide of a spouse, cohabitant or partner”.

He was at his father’s, in Montmeyan, in the Var, when he called the gendarmes around 9:45 a.m. to report his presence. “He came to say goodbye to me before he surrendered. He does not understand why Amanda (his companion, editor’s note) has disappeared, ”testified his father on BFMTV. The latter had called on his son to “return without delay” via the continuous news channel. “Arnaud, if you see me, if you hear me, if you see this message, I ask you to go to the nearest police station or gendarmerie without delay”, had launched his father, Gérard, in a video.

Almost a month on the run

A call for witnesses was launched on February 10, then a second a few days ago, to find Arnaud B., a police officer in Seine-Saint-Denis, who was on the run and in possession of his service weapon, which he was not supposed to wear outside of working hours. His vehicle had been found in Amiens, and his trace had been spotted in the Oise, where he had withdrawn 1,500 euros in cash.

As a reminder, Arnaud B. is suspected of femicide after the discovery of the body of Amanda G., his 29-year-old companion, in the bathroom of his apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The policeman had not gone to work that day and had vanished.

The suspect had already been taken into police custody in October 2019 for violence against his partner at the time, who had bruises on one arm. He had admitted the facts, evoking an argument. The Créteil public prosecutor’s office condemned him to follow a training course to raise awareness of domestic violence. After this internship, he was able to resume his duties.

The investigation is entrusted to the 2nd district of the Parisian judicial police, whose agents will go to the Var to question him.
