We didn’t need to get to the point where a woman was murdered in front of one Police Department to understand how “something is wrong” with the modern Greek state or better, with that which “created” successive governments that saw power as the prize of personal interests.
All of this has not only worsened over the past five years but has accumulated.
They told us and attributed them to this day to settling the accounts of an international mafia and also a Greek mafia they called “greekmafia”, often to accommodate there a series of “events” that they had to downplay and “forget”. It is supposed that all this would not touch us!
A lot happened in a country, a lot accumulated and someday the truth would come out because no matter how much you try to hide it under the carpet, someday the carpet will fill up.
After a series of murders, femicides, rapes – even of minors – in which public opinion erupted in judges, actors and politicians, we reached the point where a truth is now exposed.
A police “bloated”, antiquated, aging and often corrupt and unable to respond to a modern European state, respecting the Rule of Law, human rights and of course the “citizen”.
No amount of political verbiage will save us if risk assessment protocols, immediate legal and psychological support, protected shelters are not created and enforced.
No appeal from above and no prayer will save us if attitudes do not change, if there is no substantial reorganization, if they do not instill in the police officers the concept of protecting the citizen.
It is the current Police of Michalis Chrysochoidis, known from the old days.
Immobile and indifferent to the citizenry, dusty with time and – with some exceptions – tired, institutional and serviceable to a political hierarchy.
A terrified woman gives evidence at the police station of Aghii Anargyri to a female officer assisted by a female police officer. In a panic she calls for help and instead of being immediately protected and offered protection, a strange routine and sleepiness ensues.
She asks for a patrol car to go to her house. They answer her that it is not planned…
The woman leaves the department. The police guard is motionless, not even understanding.
The woman is stabbed in the middle of the street and the Police are looking for the reason.
And it wasn’t the first time. Something similar had happened before in December ’23 in Salamis, Dafni and Pelion in 2021.
Some will be found guilty and try to close the circle and return to the blessed and macabre dust of the service hierarchy where the citizen is not prioritized, but a sick concept of state power that does not prevent but simply watches as a spectator trying to push everything down from the carpet…
Because the goal is the province of power, not the protection of the citizen.
But didn’t they do the same in Tempe?
