FEmale View on Football: Shifting Perspectives and Empowering Women in the Football World

Tipp: „FE:male view on football“

With 32 nations competing, the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is the largest Women’s World Cup to date. Although women’s football is receiving more and more attention, football as a whole is still mostly told from a male perspective. Journalist Anna-Sara Lange and former professional and national player Turid Knaak want to change that. In her podcast „FE:male view on football“ they talk about football from their point of view, a female point of view – and in doing so they also want to strengthen the visibility of women in football.

Our story was shown with all the resistance, the challenges, the growing together. That has contributed to the development of our football and as a result we have also become a bit of a role model for young footballers.

In every podcast episode, people from the football world are guests on “FE:male view on football”: Coaches like Martina Voss-Tecklenburgfootball professionals like Kathrin Hendrichleaders like the president of the Norwegian Football Association Lise Klaveness. With their visitors, the hosts Anna-Sara Lange and Turid Knaak discuss, for example, the differences between men’s and women’s football in a relaxed and humorous manner. A new episode is usually released once a month – but on the occasion of the Women’s World Cup you can look forward to a new episode of the podcast every week until the end of August with lots of background information about the World Cup.

The women’s soccer World Cup begins on July 20. 32 national teams meet in Australia and New Zealand. And the German women’s team is one of the favourites. Football is traditionally told from a male point of view. In the “PodcastPodcast” we show at the start of the World Cup that there is another way. We recommend three podcasts that take a female perspective on football.

When women talk about women’s football, the line-ups, results and tactics are just as important as when it comes to men’s football. But it is also about questions that make up the everyday life of professional footballers. What does it mean, for example, to bring your own child to the World Cup as a national team player? Why is football culture so male-dominated? And how do the fans’ toxic body images influence how professionals deal with their own bodies?
