A female tourist guide in Guizhou Province, Chinagets angry with his tour group, because none of them want to shop when they visit a gemstone shop.
Video footage that went viral on Chinese social media showed a tour guide shouting at a group of tourists for an hour while they were on a bus from Guangzhou to Guizhou in southwest China on September 26, 2023.
Newspaper report Theirs said the tour guide took them to several shops selling gemstones, but most of them just visited without shopping, which made him angry.
The tour guide also threatened to cancel the trip and leave the group if they did not spend money on shopping during the tour. In fact, the tour guide scolded the tourist for being “stingy” during the tour.
Meanwhile another report from Sing Tao Dailyas quoted from VN Express said, there was a more intense argument with the tour guide when one member of the tour group said, “It is the tourist’s right to choose whether to shop or not.”
One of the group members said that what he participated in was a cheap tour package and at that time only one member of the group was shopping.
On September 29, 2023, the Culture and Tourism Department of Guiyang City in Guizhou Province and other law enforcement agencies began verifying the identity of the female tour guide.
Officials said they will investigate and will not tolerate actions that affect tourists’ legitimate rights and interests.
The incident occurred ahead of Golden Week, China’s longest annual holiday. This year’s Golden Week lasted eight days from September 29 to October 6 when hundreds of millions of Chinese people flocked to travel.
