Female professor of IIT Mumbai supports Palestinian extremists, students lodge complaint

Mumbai. Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai have filed a police complaint against a professor and a guest speaker for allegedly making remarks in support of Palestinian extremists during an online lecture. An official gave this information on Friday.

The students lodged a complaint on Wednesday demanding action against Professor Sharmistha Saha of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) and guest speaker Sudhanva Deshpande in connection with the lecture on November 6.

“Professor Sharmistha Saha is responsible for hosting such speakers in the name of academic course ‘HS 835 Performance Theory and Praxis’ to make students believe biased and factually false news,” a student told PTI. We condemn the attempt.

In their complaint to the police, the students claimed that Saha misused his position to invite Deshpande (a staunch leftist) to discuss their course HS835. The students alleged that Deshpande’s ode to Palestinian extremist Zakaria Zubaidi could have disastrous consequences for the academic integrity and security of IIT Mumbai.

According to the complaint, ‘Deshpande made a statement during the program, which has raised serious concerns. He not only admitted to meeting Palestinian terrorist Zubaidi in 2015, but also defended and glorified violence and armed rebellion.

It has been mentioned in the complaint that Zubaidi is associated with Al-Aqsa Marts Brigade and the governments and international organizations of various countries including America, European Union and Israel have declared the organization as a terrorist organization.

According to the complaint, the Al-Aqsa Martian Brigade has been associated with several incidents of terrorism and attacks targeting civilians, so the professor and speaker’s association with the organization could create serious problems.

In the complaint, Deshpande has been quoted as saying, ‘The struggle of the Palestinians is a freedom struggle and there has been no such struggle in the history of colonialism in the world, which has been 100 percent non-violent. This has never happened! The Indian freedom struggle was also not 100 percent non-violent.
