At the Metro Richmond Zoo in the United States, a female orangutan lacks a motherly spirit. So to teach him to take care of his offspring, the healers decided to lead by example. One of the babysitters even breastfed her baby to teach her how to feed her newborn.

A study has revealed that decreased activity of the PTPN2 gene in intestinal epithelial cells reduces the production of Paneth cell antimicrobial peptides in mice, and suggests that a particular E.coli bacteria, AIEC, could worsen inflammation in IBD patients. The work could be used to identify pharmacological agents that can rescue Paneth cell function whilst reducing the contributions of microbes to intestinal inflammation.
