The network of stations of the Cuban National Seismological Service reported a new earthquake reported as perceptible this Monday, 47 km southeast of the city of Santiago de Cuba.

In the note published on their official website, they report that the “earthquake that was felt at 10:26 pm, was located at the coordinates 19.67 degrees north latitude and -75.57 degrees west longitude.”

It had a depth of 3.2 km and a magnitude of 3.8. “So far, reports of perceptibility have been received in the province of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo and Holguín,” they add in the message.

Likewise, they ensure that at the closing of the information no material or human damages are reported. This is the perceptible earthquake No. 8 of the year 2023.

EARTHQUAKES IN CUBA

Just two weeks ago the National Seismological Service of Cuba warned in its daily part of seismicity on the island about an “anomalous” situation in the eastern region.

According to information offered, between July 25 and up to 6:00 am on the 26th, 255 events were recorded, none of which were reported as noticeable. They had magnitudes between 0.4 and 3.2 degrees on the Richter scale.

From 6:00 a.m. on August 6 to 5:59 a.m. on August 7, 2023, a total of 15 earthquakes were recorded in Cuba, with a magnitude range between 1.5 and 3.0.
