The plot of the film with Felix Mallard

The film is about a family terrorized by a new species of deadly arachnid. Mallard will play Remy, a new father scared of fatherhood, married to Grace, a career woman who is often away on business. Remy must care for daughter Zoe and furnish the family’s new home, while continuing to think about her career goals. But this house seems to be already inhabited.

The film’s antagonist, and matriarch of the “nest”, is a gigantic female spider who will be animated thanks to a mix of puppetry and VFX, handled by artist Russell Sharp (Late Night with the Devil) and his team at Sharp FX, along with visual effects studio Alt.FX (The Pope’s Exorcist).

The production

Architect launched global sales of the project at the American Film Market in Las Vegas, with the aim of starting filming in the second quarter in Australia. Edmonds was inspired to write the film by dealing with the challenges of fatherhood himself; Nest marks his feature film directorial debut.

The film is executive produced by Joe Weatherstone (Killing Ground) and produced by Melissa Kelly (Hounds of Love) e Bethany Jones per Mushroom Studios (Chopper), who also developed the script with Edmonds and script consultant Daina Reid (The Handmaid’s Tale). Marianne Jade of Maura Fay Casting takes care of the casting. The project received support from Screen Australia.

Director Edmonds stated: “Nest is every parent’s worst nightmare. It’s a home invasion movie from the inside, where the fight shifts to defending your child when the house becomes infested with another family – with spiders!” Producer Bethany Jones added: “Guy has written spine-tingling horror with a beating heart – focused on a couple you’ll love and want to see triumph as they face a nightmarish intruder.”
