Felix Girard of the HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie got suspended for one game because of an incident deemed as spearing during Saturday’s game against the Dornbirn Bulldogs.

Felix Girard (#16) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie, time 37:48 was involved in an incident deemed as spearing (IIHF Rule 161). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Felix Girard (#16) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 161 – Spearing.

On December 26th in Dornbirn, a spearing incident occurred involving HC Innsbruck player #16 Felix Girard on Dornbirn player #2 Olivier Magnan. A 5 minute + game misconduct penalty was assessed by the on-ice officials.

As the video shows, a goal mouth scramble occurred in the Dornbirn crease. With the puck momentarily loose, Girard had probable cause to enter the crease and battle for the puck. Once the Dornbirn goalie secured the puck and play had stopped, Girard continued poking for the puck, which caused a scrum.
The reason for supplementary discipline is during the scrum, Girard, while laying on his back, looked at Magnan, raised his stick and gave a forceful spear to the mid section of Magnan. Considering spearing is deemed a serious and dangerous act, the PSC reviewed the spearing motion and decided the incident is worthy of a category 1 – Careless suspension. The spearing action is not considered accidental. Instead, it is determined Girard added his second hand to deliver a forceful ’stab‘.

Effective immediately, Felix Girard (#16) of HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie is suspended for 1 game and fined 250.00 Euros.
