Felix da Costa inherits pole after Cassidy penalty

(Motorsport-Total.com) – Nick Cassidy actually had what was happening at Formula E in New York on Sunday as well. Once again, the Envision driver from New Zealand was unbeatable in qualifying. But due to a battery change after the rain chaos on Saturday, he has to start the race from the back of the field.

Cassidy beat his Portuguese opponent Antonio Felix da Costa (DS Techeetah) in the final on Sunday. The New Zealander put in a terrific lap of 1:08.584 minutes – the fastest time of the Formula E weekend so far! Due to the penalty, however, the defeated finalist now gets the best starting place.

Previously, Cassidy entered the KO stage as the runner-up in Group A. Only Sergio Sette Camara was faster in his group. Cassidy Stoffel defeated Vandoorne in the quarter-finals, and Andre Lotterer lost out in the semi-finals.

Stoffel Vandoorne and Mitch Evans in the top 6

Felix da Costa also finished second in his group, beaten only by Mitch Evans. The Portuguese then defeated reigning world champion Nyck de Vries in the quarterfinals and Alexander Sims in the semifinals.

Sims starts next to Felix da Costa from the front row, third place goes to Lotterer. The Porsche driver was lost due to an early braking error in his semi-final. Sergio Sette Camara starts with him from the second row, Vandoorne and Evans form the third row.

While Vandoorne and Evans made it into the top 6 in qualifying, the other title contenders struggled again. Felix da Costa’s teammate Jean-Eric Vergne failed in eighth place in the first group and starts from P12.

Edoardo Mortara wasn’t even able to take part in qualifying and is therefore in 20th place on the grid. Like on Saturday, the race starts at 19:00 CEST.
