Felipe VI calls for unity in the fight against the coronavirus | Society

Felipe VI requested this Saturday unity in the fight against COVID-19 during his participation in Santiago de Compostela, along with Queen Letizia, in the traditional offering to the Apostle, whose day is celebrated today.

In his speech, the King stressed that in this fight against the coronavirustoday that achievement consists of being able to lessen the impact of the crisis without diminishing the solidarity between people and territories that we Spaniards enshrine in our Constitution “.

In addition, he recalled Galicia’s commitment to the self-government of plural Spain, as well as the full development of democracy despite the difficulties of recent months due to the pandemic. “The health crisis caused by Covid-19 leaves thousands of victims whose memory must always accompany us, and also distressing situations due to confinement. Along with them, the priceless sacrifice of citizens in all spheres of activity, who combined unlimited delivery with extraordinary professionalism“, he recounted.

To this he added that “now, in addition to being diligent and prudent in the face of the virus, we must face the social and economic consequences of the pandemic, which require deep unity around our shared values and a firm commitment to the search for the common good. “

The Kings presided over the official acts on the occasion of the feast of Santiago Apóstol in the Church of San Martiño Pinario, where a mass was celebrated and where Don Felipe presented the traditional offering to the Apostle.

The church of San Martiño Pinario has been chosen for the celebration of this act because the cathedral of Santiago is still under construction. Last year, which was also the case, the Kings did not go to Santiago de Compostela and it was the mayor of the town, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo who made the offering.

Before mass, the Kings greeted the authorities in the Plaza del Obradoiro and from there they moved to the church of San Martiño Pinario, to participate in the Eucharist and make the offering.

The Kings they will visit Navarra, Cantabria and Asturias next week, in his tour of all the autonomies, which began after ending the state of alarm and confinement.
