The fire went up immediately after the World Cup final for club teams in the King Abdullah Sports City between Manchester City and Fluminense. Images shortly after the final whistle show how Felipe Melo gets into a fight with some players of the newly crowned world champion.
It is not known why the now 40-year-old Melo got into an argument with Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish. It is clear that the Brazilian from Fluminense is particularly furious with Walker. Players from both clubs were quick to put an end to the brawl on the pitch.
Manager Pep Guardiola even had to intervene to calm Walker down. After the brief brawl, Manchester City’s players went to the podium to receive the World Cup, the fifth prize of this calendar year.
One-sided final
In the final at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Fluminense was defeated 4-0 by Manchester City. A top year for the Citizens, after previously winning the national title, FA Cup, Champions League and European Super Cup.
Nathan Aké was involved in the English team’s opening goal, which came after just 40 seconds. The defender shot from outside the box onto the post. On the rebound, however, the alert Julian Álvarez headed home from close range and in front of an empty goal: 1-0.
Nino unfortunately passed his own goalkeeper shortly before half-time, leaving Manchester City with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Guardiola’s team did not sit back in the second half and managed to find the net twice more.
Phil Foden scored the third English goal in the closing stages and Álvarez scored his second goal of the evening in the final minutes. The first world title in the history of Manchester City is therefore a fact.
