Vorarlberg Catholic Educational Center St. Arbogast Reopens as a Place for All
Feldkirch, June 24th, 2023 – The newly renovated Vorarlberg Catholic educational center St. Arbogast has reopened its doors in Götzis after six months of extensive remodeling. The center, which represents the educational mission of the church in a secular age, aims to be a place for people of all ages and beliefs, according to Bishop Benno Elbs of Feldkirch.
In his welcoming address at the reopening ceremony on Friday, Bishop Elbs emphasized the importance of addressing the legitimate questions and inquiries of young people in the 21st century. According to Elbs, constant reinvention is not possible, and therefore, critical examination of one’s foundation is essential.

He stated that education should involve asking critical questions and acquiring knowledge that can be applied to various aspects of life. The bishop highlighted values such as mindfulness, social responsibility, spirituality, solidarity, and the ability to relate, among others. Ultimately, he posed the question, “What does all this have to do with God?”
The reopening of St. Arbogast was attended by notable figures, including Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Vorarlberg’s Governor Markus Wallner. Bishop Elbs expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Federal President, considering it a great appreciation of the center’s mission.
Interested individuals had the opportunity to explore the new premises during the open house days on Friday and Saturday (June 23/24). The reopening was celebrated with a festival service on Saturday at 5 p.m. The festival program also included concerts, behind-the-scenes tours, and a children’s program.
St. Arbogast has been serving as a meeting place for education and culture for adults and young people in the Diocese of Feldkirch for the past 60 years. The Catholic Church has provided extensive facilities that have been utilized by numerous visitors over the years.
