Feijóo proposes increasing personal income tax deductions per child from 1,200 to 1,800 euros per year

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, announced this Friday that the conciliation law designed by the popular parties proposes increasing personal income tax deductions per child from 1,200 to 1,800 euros per year in order to promote birth rates. Since this tax aid was introduced in 1999, under the Government of José María Aznar, its amount of 100 euros per month (1,200 euros per year) has never been updated.

On the other hand, the rule developed by the PP shields bonuses for large families to hire caregivers or people who help at home. Specifically, it is intended to reduce the cost of Social Security by 45%. In addition, it also proposes maintaining the status of a large family even when the father or mother divorces and has shared custody.

After meeting in Barcelona with the Association of Large Families of Catalonia (Fanoc), the national leader of the PP has detailed the content of the law together with his Catalan counterpart of the party, Alejandro Fernández.

The leader of the PP has explained that he will present the articles of the bill to the social agents in a round of contacts that will begin on October 7.

On the other hand, Feijóo recalled his commitment to free nursery schools from zero to three years old, the approval of more tax breaks, the creation of a bank of hours and the extension of paternity and maternity leave up to 20 weeks. “My approach is to co-finance 50% with the Generalitat of free nursery schools, both public, subsidized and private, as we are already doing in the autonomous communities governed by the PP,” he said.

Furthermore, Feijóo has assured that for Catalan families it is a much higher priority to have free early childhood education than to “open embassies”, in reference to the network of Generalitat delegations abroad.

Catalan birth law

For his part, Fernández has reported that the Catalan group of the PP will propose an autonomous law to promote birth rates and an autonomous law to protect large families.

Fernández has praised Feijóo’s proposals to facilitate conciliation between the professional and personal spheres as well as the measures to promote birth rates, “one of the great priorities, also in Catalonia.”

In this sense, the leader has regretted that the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has “left” family policies in a secretariat and that they do not have their own department.
