Féguifoot Congress: Guinean football in danger, towards another CONOR?

CONAKRY- The electoral process as it is launched could cause big problems in Guinean football. Inevitably we will go to another CONOR if the electoral process is botched or if all the disputes submitted to the review commission are not resolved. Currently, the electoral appeals commission has registered seven (7) appeals out of the eight (8) leagues concerned. These disputes can lead to big problems. The Conakry league also knows the problems with the cancellation or postponement of the election in Kaloum.

Another big concern for the electoral appeal commission is the complaint made against a candidate’s list. The elements provided in this complaint pose a major moral problem regarding the head of the list. By validating this, the electoral appeal commission would expose the country, according to observers, to great danger with regard to the reliability of the evidence. The Guinean Football Federation clearly cannot be managed by one of the candidates in the running. We must also not lose sight of the fact that if the electoral appeal commission cancels a list, the candidate carrying it can file an appeal with the CAS (arbitrary sports court). Guinean football is therefore in a situation where the electoral appeal commission must only be guided by the texts, nothing but the texts. Finally, the recent “conflict” between the Ministry of Sports and CONOR is not likely to help matters; if it degenerates, it could lead to a crisis which would certainly lead to the establishment of another CONOR. In conclusion, the ball is in the court of the appeals commission, which we remind you is an independent commission. The future of Guinean football is being decided and is in the hands of this commission.
