Gridhot.ID – Turkey test the air defense system S-400 purchased from Russia.
This was confirmed directly by the President Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan on Friday (23/10/2020).
Erdogan said US objections to the matter were not a problem.
Reuters reported, Washington said the purchase of defense systems from Russia by Ankara jeopardizes the defense NATO.
In this regard, the US has threatened to impose sanctions.
As is known, the S-400 test fire carried out last week sparked the anger of the US State Department and the Pentagon.
“(Testing) has been and is being carried out. The attitude of the United States is absolutely none of our business,” Erdogan told reporters, including Reuters.
“If we are not going to test what we have, then what will we do?” he continued.
The two NATO allies have long been at odds over the S-400 and Washington reacted last year by suspending Turkey from the F-35 jet program.
Turkish officials say the system will not be integrated into NATO’s defense infrastructure.
Turkey signed an S-400 deal with Russia in 2017. Deliveries of the first four missiles, valued at US $ 2.5 billion, began in July last year.
Erdogan said Turkey will continue to test military equipment including light, medium and heavy weapons. This also includes equipment purchased from the United States.
“It seems that gentlemen (in the US) are very disturbed because these are weapons belonging to Russia. We are determined to continue our path as usual,” Erdogan said.
