Conceived for Sarah Bernhardt, who made it one of her favorite pieces, Fedora was adapted into an opera libretto by Arturo Colauti for Umberto Giordano. This opera was first performed in Milan on November 17, 1898 and revealed the tenor Enrico Caruso, creator of the role of Ipanov.

Sophisticated staging

History ? After her fiancé is murdered in St. Petersburg, Princess Fedora travels to Paris to find Count Loris Ipanov, her prime suspect. He confesses her love for her but also her crime, which she hastens to report to the Russian authorities. Fedora’s feelings change when she learns the legitimate motive for the crime, but her confession to the police has irreversible consequences.
