The Fedora Linux operating system is finally available on Macs with M1 and M2 chips.
This was achieved through collaboration between Asahi Linux and the Fedora Project. The development project started back in 2021.
Fedora Asahi Remix 39 became the first distribution to natively support Apple Silicon processors. That is, the OS will run on all MacBooks, Mac Minis, Mac Studios and iMacs with these chips.
However, there is currently no compatibility with M3 processors.
The developers will likely add M3 support and full compatibility with M1/M2 graphics in Fedora Linux 40. OpenGL 4.x support is promised for the next release.
To install Fedora Linux 39 from macOS, you will need macOS 13.5 or 14.2.
To install the latest OS version, open Terminal and run the command “$ curl | sh” (without quotes) from under a regular user. [9to5]
