Riedi: “Federer will win like the Australian Open back then”

Roger Federer returns to the ATP Tour. Former Davis Cup player Yves Allegro and young tennis hopeful Leandro Riedi assess Federer’s chances and talk about their tennis lessons together.

Leandro Riedi is considered a great young talent in Swiss tennis. The finalist of last year’s French Open junior tournament has started his first season on the ATP tour. Riedi received valuable tips for his career from none other than the maestro himself.

Leandro Riedi has already had a successful junior career. In January 2020, the Eastern Swiss won his first Grand Slam win in the junior doubles at the Australian Open. In the same year Riedi fought his way to the final at the French Open and only had to admit defeat to his Swiss colleague Dominic Stricker. The 19-year-old is now playing his first season on the ATP tour.

At the moment, however, it is not easy for the young Swiss Tennis players to hunt for points. Traveling has become more difficult and the few tournaments that exist at the moment are very well attended. For next week’s $ 25,000 tournament in Trimbach, Riedi and the two other young professionals Stricker and Jérôme Kym received a wildcard for the main field. “I can gain valuable experience and important points with the tournaments in Switzerland,” says Riedi and is looking forward to the weeks ahead.

In the program “A ball for two” (in the video above) Leandro Riedi talks to his coach Yves Allegro about the comeback of Roger Federer, the meeting with his idol, and what tips the maestro gave him.
