Federer returns to Sinner’s positive tests and denounces an “inconsistency”

A new giant of world tennis is speaking out on the subject. In recent weeks, the Jannik Sinner case has been the talk of the town. Last March, the world number 1 tested positive for clostebol twice, without being provisionally suspended. After an investigation, the authorities decided to clear the Italian, convinced by his explanation that he had been contaminated by a spray used by his physiotherapist. In comments reported by RMC Sport, Roger Federer responded to this controversy by assuring that he was convinced of Sinner’s innocence: “I think we’re pretty much all convinced that he didn’t do anything wrong. But I understand the frustration of people who wonder if he was treated the same way as the others. […] It’s every athlete’s and every team’s nightmare to deal with these kinds of accusations because we’re taking these tests every day. Every morning when you wake up you’re wondering, ‘Is someone going to come to my door and test me?’ It’s really tough.”

Federer believes he should have been suspended while a decision was made

Although he believes that the Italian is innocent, Roger Federer nevertheless understands the criticisms made by many players, pointing out a difference in treatment depending on the importance of the accused: “The potential inconsistency comes from the fact that it wasn’t ruled out when they weren’t 100% sure what was going on, I think that’s the question that needs to be answered.” Let’s hope that such cases do not happen again in the future.
