Federer raises nearly 4 million for charity with racket and clothing auction | Remarkable

The auction of the 20-time Grand Slam winner’s shorts, polo shirts, rackets and footwear took place in two parts: a live sale on June 23 in London at the renowned auction house Christie’s and an online sale from June 23 to July 14.

Federer had hoped to raise a little more than 1 million euros with the auction, but the final amount was therefore much higher.

“The 300 lottery tickets sold online went to buyers in 44 countries across six continents,” Christie’s said. “The best lot in online sales – which consisted of three rackets used on the London turf at Wimbledon in 2019 – sold for £162,500, 23 times more than estimated.”

“This is unbelievable,” Federer said. “We started collecting the stuff because we thought maybe one day we could do something useful with it. My wife and I are honored that the decision we made will make a big difference to so many children.”
