Swiss junior Kilian Feldbausch took the advice of the great Roger Federer and hit a deep run at the Australian Open. Feldbausch, who worked with Federer last summer, reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in boys’ singles.
Feldbausch’s Australian Open season ended on Friday after a 1: 6, 6: 4, 2: 6 defeat against Jakub Mensik. “This summer Roger Federer helped me throw the ball and advised me to play more on the field.
We’ve been working a lot on these aspects and need to keep going in the coming months,” Feldbausch said, per LeMatin.
John McEnroe hopes for Federer’s return
Just a day earlier, former world No. 1 McEnroe spoke about his desire to see Federer back on the pitch.
“It goes without saying that we miss him every time we’re at an event where Roger isn’t playing,” McEnroe told Eurosport. “He’s the classiest player and the most beautiful player I’ve ever seen on a pitch.
As a fan, I would love to see Roger. As for the future, he is 40 years old. He’s had numerous surgeries on his knee, there’s a lot of wear and tear, it would be incredible if he could come back and get closer to the level he was at,” added McEnroe.
“I thought the same thing five years ago when I [Milos] Raonic and Roger trained, went to the Wimbledon semifinals [in 2016] away and limped and did not play for six months. Then he won the Australian Open.
“He’s already done the unlikely, but that would be the most amazing thing of all if he were to win another Wimbledon. What makes him happy is what he deserves. If he wants to play we’ll be happy he’s playing but I don’t want to see Roger 80 percent.
We have that [Andy] Seen Murray and it’s not easy. You want to see the top guys play at their best.”
